I See Visions

The Oconto Falls Community has been notified by the American Library Association that we were successful in our grant application for Visions of the Universe. The Oconto Falls Community Library is one of forty libraries across the nation to be awarded the grant. 'Visions' will be coming to Oconto Falls Community Library April 4 to June 12, 2009. The United Nations has declared 2009 as the International Year of Astronomy. The American Library Association, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory and the Space Telescope Science Institute put together an exhibit and programs that reflect their mission of "how our views and understanding of the universe and the objects within it have changed over the last four hundred years". An official news release will be coming shortly. The exhibit will be open to the public and to any group, class or organization to view and participate in one of the many programs that will be available. The Library wishes to thank the sponsors who wrote letters with our application, Mark Merrifield from Nicolet Federated Library System, Roger Shellman from Oconto County Times-Herald, Amy Dessart from St Anthony School, Jan Stranz from Oconto Electric Cooperative, David Polashek from Oconto Falls School District, Jim Van Dornick from Community Memorial Hospital, April Konitzer from Oconto Falls Chamber of Commerce and Paula Huff from UW Extension. The grant application was written by Joan Denis and Cherie Bartha. The exhibit is funded by NASA.
